How to Give Thai Massage: Techniques for Beginners

Thai massage is the traditional form of massage called nuat phaen boran. It began in India and incorporates forms of yoga and stretching movements today. It is believed that Thai massage was brought to Thailand about 2500 years ago by Dr. Shivago (Javika Kumar Baccha), a contemporary of Buddha. Thai massage begins with the patient lying flat on a mat or firm mattress. The massage-giver applies rhythmic pressure to the patient s body using their hands and forearms. As the massage progresses, the giver may use their legs and feet to massage and stretch the patient.
