Weapons for Training in the Martial Arts
Though many forms of martial arts rely solely on body throwing and hand-to-hand combat, there are several versions that make use of sparring and weaponry. Through the use of both traditional and modern weaponry, martial arts enthusiasts can engage their opponent through grappling and fights that test the student's proficiency with a hand-held weapon. Instruments such as bows, spears, swords and katars are often used in these types of martial art contests. Tae Kwon Do students learn the history behind the weapons and how the various types of instruments once used in day to day life became fighting utensils as they journey through their martial arts education.
