Hunting the practice of tracking, pursuing and sometimes killing animals for food, recreation or trade. In today's sportsman's world, hunting is a term used strictly for legal activities including the pursuit of game animals such as deer, bears and some birds, and not considered the same etymologically as poaching, which is the illegal pursuit of such prey. Some animals, such as bears, can be dangerous to humans and are generally hunted with the intention of killing, but many animals are hunted by means of traps and scouting with the intention of capture and release. The hunter as a sportsman is interested in the pursuit of prey, the relationship between the animal and the wild, and sometimes the execution of skill with a firearm.
