ELECTRIC KETTLE Love it or loathe it.It is the most common household appliance and would not be wrong in saying that every home has one It works on a very simple process; The heating element inside the kettle heats up the water which then triggers an automatic switch to cut off the power once the required temperature has been reached.As an added safety feature,most kettle have a boil dry safety cut out which prevents you from damaging the element inside.There are 2 main types of kettles 1.corded:with this type you always have to unplug the kettle before you can fill it 2.cordless:this is more mobile and can simply be lifted off the base for quick refill SAFETY FIRST 1.never let young children near a kettle especially when it is on 2.always make sure the lid is closed properly 3.never place the kettle near the edge of the kitchen worktop-always push well back 4.always make sure there is enough water in the kettle TROUBLESHOOTING no power 1.faulty switch-have it checked at a service center 2.lid in not on properly-some models require you to have the lid on properly before the appliance will switch off. kettle takes ages to boil 1.there is a lot of scale in the kettle-descale using kettle descaler or boil kettle several time by adding a drop of white vinegar to the water and repeating the process 3 or 4 times untill scale softens and falls off,then rinse with cold fresh water. particles in the tea or coffe descale the kettle using any of the methods above. more tips at;http://www.handymantips.co.uk
