Receiving a Chemical Peel: Skin Care

Exfoliating the skin cosmetically is the act of removing dead cells from the top layer of the epidermis. This is important for keeping the skin looking young, healthy, and vibrant. One way to achieve it is through a process called a chemical peel, which utilizes salicylic and glycolic acid to remove the uppermost layer of dead skin. Peels are usually performed in a spa or a dermatologist s office, though there are other over-the-counter products that can be used at home - but they have a lower concentration of the active ingredients.

Though many parts of the body can benefit from exfoliation of the skin, chemical peels are most often used for the areas of the face. The cheeks, chin and neck especially benefit from the chemical method because the skin is not as rough in these areas. In this free video series, learn what to expect on your next appointment at the spa or the dermatologist s office, and decide whether a chemical peel is the right treatment for your particular need or skin condition.
